Abstract

The presented study was carried out at Experimental Farm, Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib during 2022-23. Experimental materials comprised of 60 genotypes were grown in RBD design with the objective to estimate the genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation and path analysis. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences for all genotypes for all 15 characters and indicating sufficient genetic variability. High heritability was observed by days to anthesis followed by days to heading, days of maturity, number of grains per spike, days to booting, test weight and number of spikelets per spike. The genetic advance was recorded to be higher for genetic advancement by 1 % and lower for genetic advancement by 5 %. The genotypes were showed moderate to high level of genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV). In simple, phenotypic coefficient of variation were higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation but there is quite small effect of environment on the expression of the characters and the correlation study revealed that grain yield per plant was positively correlated with biological yield per plant and harvest index. The path analysis also revealed that grain yield show highest positive direct effect on harvest index followed by biological yield per plant, number of productive tillers, number of grains per spike, days to booting, peduncle length, days to heading, spike length, number of spikelets per spike, test weight and days to maturity.
